The Sacred Altar

Spiritual Altar – Meditation Altar – Sacred Altar

“Embrace Your Spirit”

An Altar, is a sacred table, or platform, that resides in a quiet place one can go and invest time to relax their physical body while appreciating their spirit. It is a place to find peace. It is a place to find harmony. It is a place to express your inner spirit.

An altar is the place to will something, whether by meditating, praying, or performing a ritual. It all depends on the actual beliefs of the physical person. I encourage anyone of any religion in invest in an altar, as an altar brings peace and harmony to the mind, body and soul. It encourages one to connect with their inner-self, God, or Goddess. A Sacred Altar is a place where we connect our physical body with our spiritual being. I must add that a spiritual being is not necessarily a ghost, angel or demon, but more of the person we are and who we praise, like Jesus, or Buddha, etc.

Let’s move on to the structure of an altar. It can be something placed on the floor. It can be made out of wood, metal or plastic. It really doesn’t matter, as long as you love it. It can be round, square or rectangular. It can even be an entire room., which I have heard of people dedicating a spare room as their place to meditate and find peace. In reality, an altar can be virtually anything you wish it to be.

There are no requirements on the shape, measurement, or texture of an altar. Make sure it is durable and secure of course, because you will have to place things on it. Also, it is important for one to remember that the Altar should be something that is dedicated to you, not a friend, family member, nor your enemy. It should radiate and express who you are as an individual. Decorate your altar as you would your own room.

Placed before your altar should be a pillow, or something soft, on which you can sit comfortably. Being comfortable is very important in allowing your body to feel welcomed and relaxed. If you wish to sit on the bare ground, so be it. All that matters is if you are comfortable.

Just remember, when creating an Sacred Altar there are no limitations, or rules. There is nothing you can not place upon it. Never second guess yourself. If you wish to put something on it, so be it. Always remember, when something pops into your mind there is a reason behind it. So, go with your gut instincts. Never question them. However, for those of whom that may need a few tips,  I listed a few to help assist you in creating a vision.

Things you will need:

  1. Table

  2. Cushion/Pillow

  3. Quiet Place

Prior to creating and dressing your altar one should ask themselves questions, such as:

Consecrate Your Sacred Altar:

After you finish putting together your Sacred Altar make sure you consecrate it. Declare it sacred. Pray to your god, or goddess, for their help to bless it with divine light of the highest power. Ask that it be filled with white light and surrounded by gold light. Also, make a commitment to return to the altar daily to keep your faith focused, strong and pure. Before, and after, each meditation bless and cleanse your altar with divine light and shield it from anything negative. Keep your Sacred Altar clean and organized. Remember, this is the sacred place that represents your spirit.
